AIDSLifecycle Day 6 – Recaptured -Stats

By the cold morning of Day 6, one can be assured that one will complete “every mile of this journey.”

The beginning of the route started with a low grade hill. (I love ‘low grade’). Therefore, I charged up the hills like a bat out of hell. I rode a 45 mile non-stop to lunch. (However, that may not have been wise).

As I ate my lunch, I noticed . . I was “tired.” So, I swallowed 2 clif shots, finished off my Cylo Max, and positioned myself in Setubandha Sarvangasana.

A short time later, I drank two bottles of water, thanked Boudin Catering for the wonderful lunch, and mounted my bike.

Soon after mile 54.2, I saw it! I saw one of the most beautiful things. I saw a sign that said “ice cream.” I saw a sign that said “strawberries.” I saw a sign that said “water.” I HAD ARRIVED!

The Santa Barabara Unofficial PitStop in Montecito!

Besides being a beautiful stretch of the West Coastline, Santa Barbara/Montecito is the home of the “Santa Barbara Unofficial Pit-Stop.”

Each Year, the locals of Santa Barbara gather and create their own “unofficial” pit stop for the AIDS Life Cycle Cyclist & Crew. There you can find: chocolate bars, strawberries, homemade ice cream, corndogs, twinkies, coco cola, and then some.. …It’s fabolous! ALL YOU CAN EAT! GRATIS!

Yet, has anyone seen Oprah Winfrey?

As I ate my strawberries and homemade ice cream, I asked several Montecito residents: “Where is Oprah Winfrey??”

Responses:
1. Oprah Winfrey is not here.
2. That’s a funny question. . . . .
3. Can I be in the picture?
4. Great Idea!
5. Who’s Oprah?
6. Oprah Winfrey can be found shopping in the local Montecito Vons.

As I left Montecito, I thought:
“Imagine … How wonderful and empowering it would be .. . .. “

1. To have Harpo Productions produce a show about the fundraising organizations of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation:

* AIDS LifeCycle
* SSF AIDS WALK ,
* National AIDS Marathon

2. To have Oprah ride with and/or sponsor “a cycling team of diverse backgrounds in the fight against the AIDS Pandemic -Team “O”.

3. To see 1,500 cyclists cycling down the Montecito / Santa Barbara Coast line wearing jerseys that say . . ” Harpo Productions ” . . . .

4. To have Oprah Winfrey speak about AIDS in America at the AIDS LifeCycle Closing Day Ceremonies in Los Angeles.

5. To invite Oprah Winfrey to participate in any way that she can . . ..

Similar to Tracy Chapman’s involvement with AIDS Life Cycle #3 – 2004, the acknowledgement and presence of Oprah Winfrey in AIDS Life Cycle #5 – 2006 would provide indescribable benefits for the success of the AIDS Life Cycle Event, AIDS Awareness, AIDS Education, AIDS Services, and AIDS Research.

“Through the power of media, Oprah Winfrey has created an unparalleled connection with people around the world. As supervising producer and host of the top-rated, award-winning The Oprah Winfrey Show, Oprah Winfrey has entertained, enlightened and uplifted millions of viewers for the past two decades. Oprah Winfrey’s accomplishments as a television pioneer, producer, publisher, educator and philanthropist have established Oprah Winfrey as one of the most respected and admired public figures today. “

It’s five minutes that could change the world.
An Invitation to Harpo Productions & Oprah Winfrey

As I arrived in Ventura, I had to remember to take a “longer exhalation to calm the mind.” Why?

It was time for my 8 ride tradition of:
1. Visiting Ventura’s “IN & OUT Burger”
2. Planting my ass on the beach of Ventura.
2. Eatting 2 Cheeseburgers & 2 Fries and drinking a “FAT TIRE BEER!” (before my 4:00pm dinner.

However, (as the “bike tech bitch”), I had to accomidate the volunteer bike techs. Therefore, I went to In & Out Burger. I purchased 6 cheeseburgers and 2 fries. I delivered 4 cheeseburgers (gratis) to the four bike techs. And then, I went to the beach.

That evening, I sat at the beach with my cycling mentor, Kyle Rich and laughed about the past 6 days of the journey. And, I looked very forward to tomorrow and seeing my mother at the finish line.

As we returned to the campsite, I checked in with my bike techs. And one bike tech informed me that he didn’t receive a “double double no onions.” So, I proceeded back to IN & OUT Burger and purchased 3 Cheeseburgers and 1 Double Double NO Onions.

Later that evening, it was time for the Candle Light Vigil.
