TCS Amsterdam Marathon

AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS — Renowned Yoga instructor, endurance athlete, and veteran road cyclist Tony Eason officially expanded his international athletic repertoire by taking on the world-famous TCS Amsterdam Marathon.
Following major domestic endurance milestones—including twenty 545-mile California AIDS Ride / AIDS/LifeCycle bicycle rides, the 2012 San Francisco Marathon, and the 2014 Marine Corps Marathon—Eason initiated a dedicated, multi-month training build-up logged via Endomondo to prepare for the European event.
Budget Travel & WOW Air Flight Experience
Embracing budget-conscious, low-cost transatlantic travel, Eason booked his journey to Europe aboard WOW Air, the Icelandic ultra-low-cost carrier. Flying through the airline’s central hub at Keflavík International Airport (KEF) in Iceland, Eason documented the budget travel experience—navigating strict baggage limits, layover connections, and long-haul flights—before arriving in the Netherlands refreshed and ready for race weekend.
Training Log, Mileage Gains & Key Stats
Leading up to his flight to Europe, Eason logged structured training runs across San Francisco routes to build the stamina required for 26.2 miles:
- Training Kickoff (Jan 10, 2016): Official launch of the 2016 Amsterdam build-up through rainy city streets.
- 10-Mile Pacing Run: Waterfront route from the Embarcadero past Marina Green to Crissy Field and back, focusing on mid-distance speed targets.
- 15-Mile Distance Progression: Urban route traversing Golden Gate Park along JFK Drive out to Ocean Beach.
- 20.63-Mile Peak Training Run (“Airbus 26.2”): Completed in Asics Gel-Kayano running shoes, this key milestone achieved a 1.0-mile distance gain while simultaneously cutting his overall 20-mile pace.
The TCS Amsterdam Marathon—a World Athletics Platinum Label event starting and finishing inside the historical 1928 Olympic Stadium—guided runners past major Dutch landmarks, including the Rijksmuseum, along the Amstel River, and through Vondelpark.
“Crossing international finish lines represents the culmination of discipline, breath control, and focus,” said Eason. “Whether navigating budget transatlantic flights, cycling 545 miles, or logging 20-mile training runs, integrating yoga principles keeps the body aligned, reduces recovery time, and stills the mind through every stage of the journey.”
A graduate of the Two-Year Advanced Teacher Training Program at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco and an apprentice to Senior Iyengar Teacher Janet MacLeod, Eason brings over two decades of yoga teaching experience to help endurance athletes integrate mindfulness, structural balance, and physical recovery.
