San Francisco Marathon

Renowned Yoga instructor, avid road cyclist, and community activist Tony Eason successfully completed the 2012 Wipro San Francisco Marathon, officially entering the elite tier of endurance athletes who have conquered a full 26.2-mile marathon.
Having completed twenty 545-mile California AIDS Ride / AIDS/LifeCycle bicycle rides from San Francisco to Los Angeles—raising over $64,000 for HIV/AIDS awareness—Eason decided to step out of his comfort zone and set a new personal milestone. Declaring his intention to transition from cyclist to a marathon runner, Eason embarked on an intensive one-year endurance program beginning on August 1, 2011, with an initial 2.7-mile run.

After a year of rigorous training and concluding with a final 22-mile preparation run along the San Francisco WinPro Marathon course, Eason lined up in Wave #7 at 6:22 AM on July 29, 2012, wearing Bib No. 71,094. Crossing the finish line at the Ferry Building along the Embarcadero, Eason joined the exclusive 1% of 1% of the U.S. population to complete a full marathon.
“Whether training for an endurance event, preparing for an advanced teacher program, or striving for a major life target, the formula is the same: Vision, Focus, and OWNING IT!” said Eason. “The practice of Hatha Yoga brings awareness to the physical body, regulates the breath, and stills the mind, creating harmony and supporting athletic recovery.”
A graduate of the Two-Year Advanced Teacher Training Program at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco and an apprentice to Senior Iyengar Teacher Janet MacLeod, Eason integrates his experience as a cyclist, swimmer, and marathon runner into his weekly yoga instruction to help students of all levels build discipline, endurance, and mindfulness.
