30 million Americans are affected by liver disease<\/a>. In fact, liver disease is now estimated to affect more people than those living with diabetes type 1<\/a> and diabetes type 2<\/a> and all cancers<\/a> combined.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“As you may know, my boyfriend, Paul, lost his father to liver cancer in April. Lester Wilson was a wonderful man who touched the lives of many, and Paul and his cousins have organized <\/span>a team<\/a> to walk in the American Liver Foundation’s Liver Life Walk<\/a> in Los Angeles on September 26, 2009. I’ll be walking with them and am writing to ask for your support. I know that times are tough and I can certainly understand that many people can’t afford to give right now. Last year’s walk was a great success–together we raised much needed funds to support life-saving research, support services and education. This year, with your help, we can reach our goal of raising $125,000 to support patients and their families!<\/p>\n

The Liver LIFE Walk <\/strong>is a 3-mile pledged fundraising walk event that promotes liver awareness while raising funds for critically needed liver disease research, education and advocacy. Enjoy entertainment, food and refreshments. The Liver LIFE Walks are family and pet friendly and begin at 9:00 a.m.<\/p>\n

The Liver LIFE Walks <\/strong>offer an important opportunity for those of whose lives have been touched to promote liver disease awareness. The future is up to each of us<\/span><\/strong>.<\/span> Promoting awareness means we are in the public spotlight. Each of us that promotes liver disease awareness helps dispel the myths that exist about liver disease. It helps educate others, encourages those who may feel ashamed to join with us and be a partner, and lastly, reaches out to those who may not know about the ALF and engages them to be advocates for the future. <\/p>\n

With 30 million Americans affected by liver disease, it is imperative that liver disease goes public. <\/em>30 Million Americans. We cannot hope and we cannot wait.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In Los Angeles<\/a>, one out of ten people is affected by a liver disease…with nearly 10 million people in Los Angeles …there are close to one million patients coping with biliary atresia, fatty liver, hepatitis A, B, or C and other liver related diseases.<\/p>\n
