In November 2008, as I was looking at the “Grotto” (community space) of Sports Basement<\/a>, a light bulb went on. And, I began to ponder over the idea of using Sports Basement’s community space to serve the yoga community. So to get the ball rolling, I began to teach free yoga classes each Sunday at Sports Basement.<\/p>\n

A month later, I organized Sports Basement’s first yoga teacher schedule, began the internet promotions, and then watched the yoga students arrive. Since that time, I have pondered over “what else can I do to be of service to the San Francisco Yoga Community.”<\/p>\n

In December 2009, I was approached by representatives of the Gray Area Foundation for the Arts<\/a> (Gabriel Dunne<\/a>, Stephanie Sherriff,<\/a> and Josette Melchor <\/a>). And after a brief meeting, we all agreed on introducing “donation based yoga classes<\/a>” to the tenderloin community.<\/p>\n

Therefore, in January 2010, each Monday night, students of the tenderloin community were invited to attend yoga classes regardless of their finances – making yoga accessible & affordable to every individual regardless of finances.<\/p>\n

IYENGAR YOGA TEACHER BIOGRAPHY<\/h1>\n

Born in San Francisco, Iyengar Yoga Teacher, Tony Eason<\/a> has been a student of Yoga for fifteen years As a road cyclist, <\/a>Tony came to yoga for the benefits of stretching.For five years he studied under Yoga Teacher Mary Friedland. Tony continued to develop his personal practice and teaching skills with the guidance of Yoga Teachers: Kathy Alef<\/a>, Ben Thomas<\/a>, Tommijean Thomas PhD, Jaki Nett<\/a>, and Nora Burnett<\/a>. He apprenticed under Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher, Janet MacLeod<\/a><\/p>\n

<\/a>He is a graduate of the Two-year Advanced Teacher Training Program of the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco.<\/div>\n

His classes are based on the traditions of B.K.S. Iyengar.<\/a><\/div>\n

<\/a>Through Hatha yoga<\/a> classes, he teaches students to pay attention to the alignment of their bodies, to become aware of the breath, and to control the mind.<\/p>\n
Presently, Tony teaches classes, seminars, and substitute teaches at: James Howell Studio<\/a>, Club One<\/a>, and the San Francisco Tennis Club,<\/a> <\/p>\n

Cyclist<\/a>, beginners, seasoned yoga students, and everyone else, are encouraged to attend his yoga classes.<\/div>\n
