Ralph Anthony Eason for his 26 years of military service in the U.S. Marine Corps.&#8221;<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><br \/><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"157\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/J-uLahe8BRM\" width=\"280\"><\/iframe>&nbsp;<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ynottony.com\/ynot\/wp-content\/uploads\/CAM01732.jpg\" style=\"clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/ynottony.com\/ynot\/wp-content\/uploads\/CAM01732.jpg\" height=\"240\" width=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">Pre Marine Corps Marathon 2014 | San Francisco<\/span><\/h3>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">Successfully completing a marathon doesn&#8217;t begin on race day!<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">On 26 September 2014 , while on my 19 mile marathon training run, I felt great pain on my right leg&#8217;s outer knee. &nbsp;And therefore, I halted the run. &nbsp;I figured &#8220;it&#8217;s just a bad day.&#8221; &nbsp;And therefore, I took the week off from all cycling and running.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">On 03 October 2014, after a week off, I began another 19 mile training run. &nbsp;Again, after 9 miles, I felt great pain on my outer knee. &nbsp;The run was halted. &nbsp;And, I began to question my ability to participate in and\/or complete the Marine Corps Marathon on 26 October 2014. &nbsp;<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">[I needed a miracle. &nbsp;It was time to call in &#8220;the big guns&#8221;].<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">On 06 October 2014, I began to browse the Google Search Engine for articles on &#8220;outer knee pain injuries.&#8221; &nbsp;I discussed <\/span>concerns<span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">&nbsp;with my running mentors. &nbsp;And, I consulted physical&nbsp;therapy&nbsp;<\/span>practitioners<span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">&nbsp;and mental wellness advisers. &nbsp;<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">After gathering all the information, my support team concluded; &nbsp;&#8220;You are suffering from <b>IT Band Syndrome<\/b>.&#8221;<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">Therefore:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I&nbsp;initiated physical therapy stretches to strengthen the muscles of the leg.<\/li>\n<li>I purchased new running shoes to lessen the right ankle pronation.<\/li>\n<li>I applied KT Tape to assist in healing the injury.<\/li>\n<li>I ingested Homeopathic Arnica Montana to relieve pain and inflammation.<\/li>\n<li>I placed ice packs on my right outer knee to relieve inflammation.<\/li>\n<li>I refrained from running until &#8220;26 October 2014 | Race Day&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>I kept my mind &#8220;focused on my duty.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">Pre Marine Corps Marathon 2014 | SFO to DCA<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>On 23 October 2014, I boarded US Airways Flight 610 from San Francisco International [SFO] to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Arlington, Virginia [DCA].&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Soon following, I hopped the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authoriy Metro System [WMATA] to my temporary home in Takoma Park, Maryland.<\/p>\n<p>[Tacoma Park Maryland is very beautiful].<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ynottony.com\/ynot\/wp-content\/uploads\/Takoma-2BPark.jpg\" style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/ynottony.com\/ynot\/wp-content\/uploads\/Takoma-2BPark.jpg\" height=\"240\" width=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ynottony.com\/ynot\/wp-content\/uploads\/Marine-2BCorps-2BMarathon-2BLetter.jpg\" style=\"clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/ynottony.com\/ynot\/wp-content\/uploads\/Marine-2BCorps-2BMarathon-2BLetter.jpg\" height=\"320\" width=\"240\" \/><\/a><br \/>On 24 October 2014, I attended the Marine Corps Marathon 2014 Health and Fitness Expo. &nbsp;And as I chatted with the Marines, the little man in my head repeatedly said, <b>&#8220;you can&#8217;t possibly pull this off.&#8221;<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Yet every time the little man spoke; I looked at a note I received from my mother [three days prior], &nbsp;and exhaled, &nbsp; Although the odds were against me; I focused on my duty.<\/p>\n<p>My duty = <b>&#8220;FINISH!&#8221;<\/b><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ynottony.com\/ynot\/wp-content\/uploads\/Marine-2BCorps-2BGear.jpg\" style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/ynottony.com\/ynot\/wp-content\/uploads\/Marine-2BCorps-2BGear.jpg\" height=\"320\" width=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">Marine Corps Marathon 2014 | Arlington National Cemetery<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">On 26 October 2014, my birthday, I arrived to the start line of the Marine Corps Marathon 2014. &nbsp;And although I was not certain how long my knee would hold up, I knew; I had to go through this marathon experience. I knew; I refused to face my father without the finisher medal.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">At approximately mile 15 of the Marine Corps Marathon my IT Band Syndrome returned. The pain was even greater than before. &nbsp;Therefore, my run was halted. &nbsp;And, I pulled myself over to the side of the road .&nbsp;<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">Feeling dishonorable, I sat in&nbsp;<\/span>Gomukhasana and meditated. &nbsp;I searched for a solution; a miracle; a anything.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ynottony.com\/ynot\/wp-content\/uploads\/CAM01892.jpg\" style=\"clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/ynottony.com\/ynot\/wp-content\/uploads\/CAM01892.jpg\" height=\"240\" width=\"320\" \/><\/a><br \/>Minutes later, I yelled out <b>&#8220;HELL NO! NOT TODAY!&#8221;<\/b><\/p>\n<p>With 11 miles to go, I picked my head up high, relaxed my jaw, remembered my duty and continued to run forward.<\/p>\n<p>At mile 18, &nbsp;I was stepping through the National Mall at a tortoise&#8217;s pace. &nbsp;Yet t<span style=\"background-color: white; color: #141823; font-family: inherit; line-height: 18px;\">he tough love of the U.S. Marine Corps Troops brought me through the pain.&nbsp;<\/span><br \/><span style=\"background-color: white; color: #141823; font-family: inherit; line-height: 18px;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"background-color: white; color: #141823; font-family: inherit; line-height: 18px;\">As the Marines yelled out &#8220;Master Guns;&#8221; I was reminded of &#8220;why I was there.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/span>Accordingly, I sucked it up and kept on stepping forward &nbsp;[like a Marine would ].<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: white; color: #141823; font-family: inherit; line-height: 18px;\">At mile 19, a fellow marathon runner whispered in my ear. &nbsp;<\/span><br \/><span style=\"background-color: white; color: #141823; font-family: inherit; line-height: 18px;\"><br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"background-color: white; color: #141823; font-family: inherit; line-height: 18px;\"><i style=\"font-family: inherit;\">&#8220;If you make it to the bridge by 1:15 pm; you will complete the marathon.<\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"background-color: white; color: #141823; font-family: inherit; line-height: 18px;\"><i style=\"font-family: inherit;\">&nbsp;If you do not make it to the bridge by 1:15 pm; you will be transported by the bus to the finish line.&#8221;<\/i><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: white; color: #141823; font-family: inherit; line-height: 18px;\"><br \/><\/span>Again, I yelled out&nbsp;<b>&#8220;HELL NO! NOT TODAY!&#8221; &nbsp;<\/b><br \/>And then, I began to sing Whitney Houston&#8217;s &#8220;Step by Step.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"157\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/izXJfAyy1Os\" width=\"210\"><\/iframe> <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: white; color: #141823; font-family: inherit; line-height: 18px;\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><span style=\"background-color: white; color: #141823; line-height: 18px;\">Arriving to mile 20 at 12:4pm., I<b> <\/b><\/span><span style=\"background-color: white;\"><b>&#8220;Beat the Bridge\u201d<\/b>.<\/span><span style=\"background-color: white; color: #141823; line-height: 18px;\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><span style=\"background-color: white;\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><span style=\"background-color: white;\">And as I proceeded to mile 21, I realized, &#8220;I had been humbled.&#8221;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>You see;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I had never experienced participating in an athletic event with a prior injury. &nbsp;<\/li>\n<li>I had never experienced being an athlete in &#8220;the back of the pack.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>I had never felt so much pain.<\/li>\n<li>I had a new understanding of what &#8220;the slow people&#8221; go through during their 26.2 mile experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><span style=\"background-color: white;\">At mile 23, I drank 1\/2 can of beer [with a fellow marathon runner].<\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"background-color: white;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">At mile 24, I ate 10 Duncan&nbsp;<\/span>Donuts &#8211;<span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">&nbsp;Donuts Holes.<\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"background-color: white;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\">At mile 26.2, I got that Marine Corps Marathon 2014 Finisher Medal!<\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"background-color: white;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/ynottony.com\/ynot\/wp-content\/uploads\/Marine-2BMarathon-2BMedal.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/ynottony.com\/ynot\/wp-content\/uploads\/Marine-2BMarathon-2BMedal.jpg\" height=\"320\" width=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: white;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><span style=\"background-color: white;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><span style=\"background-color: white;\">Thanks to the support of my San Francisco Community of Friends, Tacoma Park, Maryland, and the troops of the United States Marine Corps, I can now mail the finisher medal to my father, Master Gunnery Sergeant, Ralph Anthony Eason.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"background-color: white; font-family: Verdana; font-size: 13px;\"><br \/><\/span>A most BRUTAL yet precious experience indeed!<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"font-size: large;\">THANK YOU!<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" height=\"157\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Ri9yB3AQYZU\" width=\"280\"><\/iframe>  <span style=\"color: #141823;\"><span style=\"line-height: 18px;\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><span style=\"background-color: white; color: #141823; line-height: 18px;\"><\/span><\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #141823;\"><span style=\"line-height: 18px;\">Marine Corps Marathon &#8211; Official Website&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 18px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.marinemarathon.com\/\">http:\/\/www.marinemarathon.com\/<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"color: #141823;\"><span style=\"line-height: 18px;\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit;\"><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Marine Corps Marathon | Tony Eason | #runwiththemarines On 11 July 2014, I announced to my YouTube Followers: &#8220;Tony Eason will be participating in the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, D.C to honor Master Gunnery Sgt.
