Yoga Journal Conference – Iyengar Yoga

Yoga Journal Conference – A Well-Rounded Iyengar Yoga Class

Janet MacLeod – Course ID: M1MACL

  • Saturday, January 19 — 8:00am – 10:00am
  • Main Conference – Session 1
  • Mixed Levels

“Unlike other systems, Iyengar Yoga doesn’t have set sequences or asanas, and classes therefore often focus on one type of pose. These factors make it hard for students to know how to approach creating a home practice. We’ll cover asanas from all categories—standing, forward extensions/twists, backward extensions, and inversions—helping you to form an ideal daily home practice.”

What to bring: A mat, a long belt, a block and three blankets
Mostly asana.

Yoga Journal Conference – Penetrate More Deeply With Props

Janet MacLeod – Course ID: M4MACL

  • Sunday, January 20 — 8:00am – 10:00am
  • Main Conference – Session 4
  • Continue Your Education

“BKS Iyengar initially designed props for weak or unwell students to assist them in the practice of asanas. Over the years, this original use has extended into the use of props for all. Skillful use of props can strengthen, stretch, support, open, create resistance, give a sense of direction, develop awareness, and give confidence. Come learn how to use props—and bring your practice to a new level.

What to bring: A mat, a long belt, a block and three blankets

Yoga Journal Conference – Heavenly Hanumanasana

  • Main Conference – Session 6

“The key to getting into a more advanced pose safely and with relative ease is skillful sequencing. Come learn a series of postures that will prepare you for Hanumanasana, also known as “the splits.” Experience a balance of steadiness and ease as described in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra, perhaps even getting into a pose you never thought you could.”

**This class has been approved by American Council on Exercise (ACE) for 0.2 CECs.**

What to bring: A mat, a long strap, a block and three blankets
Mostly asana.

” …… If you are taking a weekly class, you can take a weekend workshop once in a while; it is also possible to make a commitment to a 200 or 500 hour advanced studies/teacher training program or strive for a regular practice if yours is not consistent. If you are teaching, look at how you fulfill continuing education requirements to make your teaching skills sharper. The beauty of yoga is that we continue to evolve and grow. What we need to do is to clarify how we wish to accomplish this. It’s a wonderful time of the year to ponder on this so that at least one of your New Year’s resolutions will be to delve into a deeper level with yoga.” – Senior Iyengar Yoga Teacher, Janet MacLeod
