Suzanne Africa Engo

At 2:15am on Saturday, 18 October 2008, I returned home from Job #3. And while scanning YouTube for fresh AIDS related videos, I said “BINGO!” –

And at that moment, a smile came to my face and I experienced one of the “Top 3 Best Day’s” of my entire life. After watching the video of Suzanne Africa Engo, I was certain that a new friendship had just been born.

An African; an athlete; an AIDS Activist; a humanitarian; a woman who was running from New York to Chicago in the fight against the AIDS Pandemic. (How could I not become involved?)

Well during Suzanne Africa Engo’s run from New York to Chicago, we became very close. On a daily basis, we began to communicate through Facebook, text messages and phone conversations. By the time Suzanne Africa Engo reached, Cleveland, Ohio I had purchased my ticket to Chicago. And as she finished her approximate 1.000 mile trek, I was there to greet her as she arrived at Harpo Studios.

Since that time, I traveled to Marseille at 47th St. & 9th Ave (in Manhattan) to have breakfast with & check up on the updates of AIDS Activist, Suzanne Africa Engo. During breakfast, she spoke about her upcoming documentary & the search for Tom Hanks. And “off the record,” she whispered ideas of her next running adventure.

“If you want to be important, wonderful.
If you want to be recognized, wonderful.
If you want to be great, wonderful.
But recognize that he who is greatest among you shall be your servant.
That’s a new definition of greatness.
And this morning, the thing that I like about it, by giving that definition of greatness, it means that everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.
You don’t have to have a college degree to serve.
You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve.
You don’t have to know about Plato and Aristotle to serve.
You don’t have to know Einstein’s theory of relativity to serve.
You don’t have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve.
You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love.
And you can be that servant.”Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
