On Thanksgiving day, each year, the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Franciscio hosts a Benefit Yoga Class. This year, in memory of Mary Frances Chan the yoga class will be taught by Iyengar Yoga Teacher, Janet MacLeod. All proceeds will benefit the IYISF Scholarship Fund making yoga accessible to one and all.
“Mary passed away on October 24, 2014. She was 79. She was a graduate of iyisf and got her IYNAUS Introductory Certification at 76 years old. She was a very avid supporter of Iyengar Yoga. Whether she was walking in the park or purchasing a pair of shoes she would be enthusiastically explaining the benefits of Iyengar yoga to one and all. I would like to dedicate the benefit workshop I am doing on Thanksgiving Day for Scholarships to her as it was her desire to make yoga accessible to everyone. She had her own studio in Sacramento. It is called Gen-Nih Yoga. “ -Janet MacLeod

“Certified as an Iyengar Yoga Instructor in 1983, she continues to study with the Iyengar family in India and in the West having attended many conventions. Her teaching style is demanding on all levels; this combined with her ability to create a joyful atmosphere in class has a transformative effect on students.
She teaches classes to the general public in San Francisco; teaches in the Teacher Training Program at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Francisco and conducts retreats and workshops worldwide.
Although Janet is involved with yoga much of the time she has other interests including her birth place – the Isle of Skye, Scotland; roses; her cats, Jasmine and Tesla; preparing healthy organic vegetarian meals – especially salads and developing her exotic shoe collection.”
